Leysdown has a 5 star sandy beach with a very gentle gradient to the sea which is great for the kids as they can play in the shallow water. There are shops including general stores, bakery, post office, cafes, fish n chip shops, resteraunts, takeaways, pubs & a nightclub. There are amusements (Jimmy Gs has a bowling alley), bouncy castles. Through the summer months there is a market two or three times a week & a car boot most Sunday's & Bank Holidays.
The Isle of Sheppey has the town of Sheerness with its sports complex, shops, Tesco supermarket & railway station.
Minster has its ancient abbey, Qeenborough has its fishing quay & museum, Harty has a great pub for lunches/meals & was where the original ferry crossing was to the island before the bridges & Eastchurch the birth of aviation in 1901.
There are also bird & wildlife sanctuaries at both ends of the island & the unspoilt landscape is ideal for walking. The Swale National Nature Reserve is at Shellness (about 2 miles outside Leysdown) & Elmley Marshes Nature Reserve (RSPB) is located near the bridges...see links
For the more adventurous there is even a nudist beach tucked away at the far end of the island.
